Which Way?

Which Way?

This handmade paper art piece presented a challenge, there was no signature to let us know which way was up or down! We decided we liked it up AND down, and both sideways, too. Plus, it worked as a diamond shape, too. We attached the wiring on the back to allow the customer to hang it eight different ways! We framed it in a contemporary deep silver. This one is fun!

Framed Contemporary Abstract!

Framed Contemporary Abstract!

This dynamic print by Florida artist Claire Miller was done in the late 60s, it is titled “Composition in Red and Black.” We matted it in a neutral beige museum quality mat and used a 1 1/8″ plain black frame. This piece measures about 24″ by 30″. Fantastic!

Framed Paul Kaufmann Abstract!

Framed Paul Kaufmann Abstract!

This large (38″ by 30″) abstract watercolor is by Columbia, SC artist Paul Kaufmann. We used a white 8-ply archival mat and a contemporary 1 1/4″ gold frame. This is part of Paul’s Manhattan series and, fittingly, will reside on the Upper East side! If you are searching for local, original and dynamic artwork consider Paul Kaufmann’s works. At Elite Framing we can show you many of his creations!

Which Way Shall We Go? Abstract Pair

Which Way Shall We Go? Abstract Pair

We are trying to figure out which way to hang this pair of abstracts. Minus any signature, we are left to our own devices to determine up or down, left or right. If anyone has any ideas let us know!

Abstract Miniature by Elli McNall!

Abstract Miniature by Elli McNall!

This fun little original mixed media on paper is by Winthrop University alumnus Elli McNall, winner of the 2014 department art award. It is SMALL! Maybe only 3″ square. We raised it off the linen mat with a hidden spacer and used a 3/4″ distressed silver Italian frame. We raised the glass off the art with hidden spacers. Fun and exciting artwork!

Before and After! A Simple Mat Job Improves Things

Before and After! A Simple Mat Job Improves Things

Recently a favorite customer brought a favorite piece of art. She remembered it from her childhood home and recently sought to move it into a prominent place in her own home. The oil on paper had been matted in a large orange mat (to match the orange in the painting) with a drab silver/green bottom mat (which happened to be the color scheme of the new room.) We simply “swapped” the mats, in a sense. We made the strong orange mat the accent mat (and only showing a crisp 1/8″, such a strong color anyway) and used the silver/green as the main top mat (although we did upgrade to a genuine silk mat instead of a paper mat.) The orange is still allowed to be the star color, bright as it is it will be the first thing noticed. The silver/green is a supporting, grounding component. Now! If we could just get her to change that frame!

Abstract Oil in Floater Frame!

Abstract Oil in Floater Frame!

Floater frames seem to be making a comeback. They can be inexpensive and are contemporary. This large abstract oil (four feet by three feet) is a perfect candidate for a floater frame. We used a plain black frame on this one, spacing the edges so the sides of the stretched canvas show.
