Throwback Thursday! 2001 Outback Bowl! Gamecock Frame!

Who remembers the 2001 Outback Bowl? Ryan Brewer was the hero, he had 200+ all purpose yards and three touchdowns for The Gamecocks against the Ohio State Buckeyes. This was seen as some redemption since Brewer was from the state of Ohio (He was Mr. Football there his senior year of high school!) and Ohio State DID NOT OFFER him a scholarship. The Gamecocks offered him! And now Ryan Brewer has his place amongst the legends of South Carolina football! We framed this newspaper photo in the Gamecock frame, Ryan Brewer autographed it himself, dedicating the inscription to one lucky Caroline!

We framed these wonderful newspapers along with the actual seat tickets! Black and Garnet mats and a black frame. Looks great! Nice memorabilia!

Newspaper articles can be challenging to frame, given the different sizes, shapes and pages they are printed. We’ve taken these two articles and composed a tidy arrangement using black matting. We think the extra black mat bevel gives a focusing element to the design. The frame is a wonderful hand-finished Italian black 7/8″ contemporary design. If you have newspaper framing to consider gives us a call at Elite Framing, located in the historic 5Pts shopping and entertainment district.

Here is a neatly framed magazine cover. A shabbily chic white frame with a white linen mat. We even clipped the rest of the magazine and placed it in a picket on the back of the frame!

This is a nice way to commemorate a magazine article, we placed the entire magazine inside the deep frame and mat. It is in mint condition! We used a distressed white moulding, it is light and airy. Nice!

Here is a nicely framed newspaper article. Commemorating the removal of the Confederate Flag from the South Carolina State House grounds, celebrated poet Nikky Finney’s words were published as a special edition to The State Newspaper on July 9th, 2015. We framed it in a palmetto embossed moulding, celebrating the common theme of The Palmetto State. The poet was kind enough to sign our newspaper! The text is as follows, “It is the pearl blue peep of day. All night the Palmetto sky was seized with the aurora and alchemy of the remarkable. A blazing canopy of newly minted light fluttered in while we slept. We are not free to go on as if nothing happened yesterday, not free to cheer as if all our prayers have finally been answered today. We are free, only, to search the yonder of each other’s faces, as we pass by, tip our hat, hold a door ajar, asking silently who are we now? Blood spilled in battle is two-headed: horror and sweet revelation. Let us put the cannons of our eyes away forever. Our one and only Civil War is done. Let us tilt, rotate, strut on. If we, the living, do not give our future the same honor as the sacred dead – of then and now – we lose everything. The gardenia air feels lighter on this new day, guided now by iridescent fireflies, those atom-like creatures of our hot summer nights, now begging us to team up and search with them for that which brightens every darkness. It will be just us again, alone, beneath the swirling indigo sky of South Carolina, working on the answer to our great day’s question: Who are we now? What new human cosmos can be made of this tempest of tears, this upland of inconsolable jubilation? In all our lifetimes, finally, this towering undulating moment is here. -Nikky Finney, July 9th, 2015.”

This magazine article is matted in a green suede (great for color photography!) and framed in a bright yellow wood. We positioned the pages of the article for easy reading and included the title page in the top opening. Excellent!

Folks like to commemorate events that are covered in the newspaper by framing an original copy. We recently helped a client layout this project. We used black acid free mats (always good on newsprint!) and a black 2″ wood frame with a gold rope motif (Made in the USA!) This piece measures about 30″ x 24″.

This one was tricky, a newspaper article that went over a few pages and had different size portions. We had to pay attention to size and scale when cutting the mat. We used a double black matboard and a contemporary ribbed Italian black moulding. This piece measures about 24″ square. Excellent!

We recently did this small job for some local sports fans, a newspaper article recognizing a legendary local Gamecock supporter. We used garnet suede matting and a thin black frame. We were able to cut separate mat openings for the two different pages of the newspaper to make it appear as one. Go Gamecocks!
